A new federal law signed in July 2026 requires lenders to notify veterans of their VA home loan eligibility directly on the mortgage application, a change that sounds small but addresses a staggering problem: only about 13 percent of eligible veterans currently use their VA loan benefit, and one in three who don't use it say they simply never knew it existed. For Tampa Bay's large military and veteran community, understanding what changed and why it matters could be the difference between paying tens of thousands of dollars in unnecessary costs and buying a home with zero down, no PMI, and a competitive interest rate.
